Creative Pebble Plus

The latest portable music player from Creative is the Creative Pebble Plus. It looks a lot like the already successful iPod Touch; which launched with great fanfare back in June 2021. The Plus has a similar look to the iPhone in that it is a small square; almost apple-like device that houses the typical touch-sensitive buttons such as the home button and control key. However; the difference is in how the speaker is arranged and what it can do.

Creative Pebble Plus

The Creative Pebble Plus is an over-sized iPod speaker that houses two small; thin (and pretty light; actually) speakers in the base. The advantage of having two speakers is that you can listen to two different songs or podcasts at the same time without having two devices on the go; nor loading them up on your phone; and without having to carry a separate cable. The speaker connects to the music player via a USB port via the same port that the iPhone uses. You can also recharge the speaker with the wall outlet like an ordinary USB device. The speaker also doubles as a headphone for your iPod; so it’s a little bit more versatile than the usual portable audio players.

While the Creative Pebble Plus does use two separate speakers; the sound produced is very flat and lifeless. It lacks any real sense of bass or other important dynamics that you’d get from other high-quality brands with good-sounding speakers. If you want true bass and dynamic range; you’ll need to look elsewhere. Sound quality could also be better provided that you buy the speakers direct from the maker. The Creative Pebble Plus ships with a set of cables; but they don’t include the right types of cables to match the speaker and make sure that you get the best performance.

The speaker also ships with a thin foldable remote control that could be more comfortable if you’re used to using a car remote. It’s not a particularly great remote; but it’s a little less clumsy than the remote included with the iPhone – and it works with most other iPod accessories. The speaker doesn’t support any sort of docking station; so if you want to use the speakers with the iPhone; you’ll need a dedicated dock to take care of the audio device. On the upside; you can charge the speaker with the mains if you use the supplied cables; and you can easily find compatible car kits that will allow you to connect your speaker to your vehicle’s battery.

Final Verdict

The product has a compact design, and it comes with an internet connection.

Despite its small size; the speakers do have some real benefits. For instance; the Creative Pebble Plus is able to produce a surprisingly large volume of sound for such a small speaker. It’s not the kind of sound you’d expect coming from compact speakers; and if you use the speakers around other people in the same room; you’ll definitely notice the difference. At a small office; this is definitely a big plus; having a booming bass effect is definitely something worth mentioning.

Unfortunately; the Creative Pebble Plus is not a perfect fit for small offices. While these speakers are loud and have a great sound; they are not as powerful as you might like. If you want to get an amazing bass effect; however; you’re going to need a good home theater system in addition to these speakers. Even though they’re small; if you don’t have a bigger home theater system the sound will come out distorted and muffled.
